Abstract

This article references academic theories related to ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s revolutionary statement, “the reality of man is his thought, not his material body,” an area which needs more research and discussion. It describes research into collective thought from the fields of communication, political science, psychology, economics, sociology and philosophy and discusses theories about collective consciousness, communication, culture and identity through the lens of Bahá’í teachings. The value of using qualitative research procedures is discussed, followed by a description of studying the elusive phenomenon of thought and how employing these procedures ultimately depends on the research question being asked.
